Truth resides in our hearts

 Matthew 15, 10-20

"Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand.

What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them,

but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.”

Then the disciples came to him and asked,

“Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?”

He replied, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will

be pulled up by the roots. Leave them; they are blind guides.

If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”

Peter said, “Explain the parable to us.”

“Are you still so dull?” Jesus asked them.

“Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and

then out of the body? But the things that come out of a person’s mouth

come from the heart, and these defile them.

For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality,

theft, false testimony, slander. These are what defile a person; but eating with

unwashed hands does not defile them.”

The hidden motivations, the unspoken secret agendas of our heart,

it is those that defiles us.

We get so used to doing that, in order to "survive" in this world,

that it becomes normal, and we often don't even recognize when we

tell lies.

As long as we stay out of trouble with the law, we might think that

we are ok people.

The mind's capacity to deceive itself is enorm, it creates an image of

itself that does not correspond to reality and facts, it is an illusion.

But this discrepancy is easily observed by others, and that is why

we have to always look at our own faults and work hard to root them out,

instead of concentrating on the others.

So, to be seen to be "good and decent" to the outside world, by following

rituals that classifies us as one thing or another, they are not going to

make any difference to the quality of our souls, if they serve as a cover up

for dishonest and secret intents of our hearts.

And those outwardly actions can never be a substitute for authenticity,

which comes from inside the person's heart.

It is a waste of time, we are only creating more illusion.

Like all those people that used to go to Mass because it was expected of

them by their culture, they had to be seen to go, but their hearts was not

really in it, so the minute they found a reason not to go, they stopped.

God created us to be whole; meaning holy; every part of us

tied together, united, integrated, one.   Heart, Body, Soul.
